What are Stemfix?
Stemfix Caps utilise a long stem, which is inserted into special screws which have a hole drilled through the drive recess into the shank of the fixing.
Stemfix caps utilise the same low-profile crown as used on the Bifix Caps - the lowest-profile and smoothest-transition cap on the UK market. A smooth transition is essential when wiping a cloth over the cap, and reduces the chance of snagging the cap.
The long-stems incorporate a series of ridges, which deform as the cap is inserted into the screw. This gives Stemfix caps a secure grip, but ensuring the stems will not break off (as can happen with other brands of caps on the market).
Stemfix caps can be used with any suitable head-hole fixings, such as Confirmat screws (5mm) and woodscrews such as our SupaChip screws. With 96 stock colours, Stemfix caps can match nearly all major laminates (solid colours, woodgrains and patterns) used in the UK - making Stemfix caps a very cost-effective way to not just cover - but really hide your fixings from sight.
How to use Stemfix Caps
Stemfix Caps are very easy to use! And if you go too deep with the screw, don't worry! A Stemfix cap will work even when the screw is 3mm below the worksurface.

Tighten the SupaChip screw until flush with the work-surface. |
Place stem of cap into drive recess and push in firmly. |
Even when the screw has been deeply embedded, Stemfix caps will still get a secure grip. |
Advantages in using Stemfix Caps?
Although SupaChip screws and other 'head-hole' fixings can be more expensive than normal chipboard screws, the secure fit of the cap stem in the drilled hole makes the cap more difficult to remove.
This is can be a very important OHS consideration when young children are around (such as in kitchen cupboards and wardrobes).
It is also an important aesthetic consideration when the area can be accessed by the public (such as shop fittings, signs etc).
The secure fit and low-profile also makes Stemifx caps the perfect choice on mobile applications (caravans, transportable homes, Display vehicles etc).
As Stemfix will still work even when the head of the screw is up to 3mm below the worksurface, use of SupaChip screws and Stemfix allows utilisation of less skilled labour for the fitting of the screws (as they do not have to be flush with the worksurface).

Working in Winter - Using Stemfix Caps in Cold Weather
Stemfix are designed and moulded to very fine tolerances, resulting in a very secure fitting that resists tampering.
Stemfix caps rely on the tiny ridges on the stem of the cap distorting as the cap is pushed into the head-hole. As the plastic become colder, it stiffens and does not flex as much. For the type of plastic used for Stemfix Caps, these changes to the behaviour of the plastic are most noticable when the plastic is below 15°C.
In colder weather, the plastic becomes stiffer, requiring more force to insert the cap. This may result in the plastic on the crown of the cap stressing, leaving a white mark immediately above the stem. This white spot will often disappear disappear over time, especially if the caps are warmed up.
The Fix: Before using, simply warm the caps in an 'inside' pocket (ie close to your body), or in an oven or similar warming device to a maximum of 100°C. Once fitted, Stemfix Caps can be used in continuous temperatures from -15°C to 120°C without any problems.
